    proxy use on irc

    alright i realize that this has probably been asked a half million times but i have searched here and not found anything that worked or was helpful. so, how do i use a proxy to change my ip and other info for irc?

    if your using windows, open ie, go to internet options, connections. in the properties for the connection your using. there's a check box for proxy. just check it then put in the proxies address.
    i might be worng, i don't use linux that much, but i believe the proxy gets set in netconfig.
