Question Pop up ads - hate 'em or what?

you can see this covered here:
    http://www.newsbytes.com/news/02/174036.html

Anyway am I the only one who figures it is time to choke the ads that pop up, perhaps through a new feature in browsers that the writers could give us in the next release?
Like maybe a setting to check for no ads?

    Lightbulb Pop-Ups Be Gone!

Here's a link to an article that describes how to get rid of those things. The article also describes a couple of programs that will handle the task and links for obtaining those items.

    PanicWare's product is GREAT!!!

I've used PanicWare's PopUpStopper for quite awhile. It's good stuff, free and everyone, to whom I've personally recommended it, has loved it.

Popups are not a bad thing. They provide revenue to companies that barely turn a profit. Unfortunatly in our consummer driven market, advertising is essential. What I do not agree with is unfair advertising practises where advertisers provided onExit() popup ads preventing you from being able to leave their presence.

There are allot of ad blocker/spyware detectors out there. if you don't like pop-ups you can get rid of them easily. try spyblocker or one like it. it works so well you can't even see the pictures at CNN.com because they put one pixel bots in the pictures.

I used a popup blocker for a while. It was great! Until I realized it was blocked the antipoint box at AO. Haven't used one since as I've decided to stick with the old click and close method. But I really don't like them, and usually delete them before the ads load. Oblio, there are better, less annoying ways to market products. But yes the onExit ones are the worst.
    Why am I still here?

Yea! pop-ups are a major annoyance, alright .

but if you really want to go balistic. Install bugnosis:

    http://www.privacyfoundation.org/

with this you'll find all the transparent 1 pixel web bugs in the main page.
    Now this ticks me off.

For advanced users running windows, I would recomment The Proxomitron. It can change the html of incoming pages on-the-fly before it gets to your browser, doesn't use the registry, etc. It's very well behaved and doesn't do any weird integrate-to-do-stuff-easier-but-breaks-the-system things. Furthermore, you can use it to change incoming and outgoing HTTP headers... And write your own filters to block other things than popup ads. (Or edit the default popup filter to exclude certain domains.) It's freeware too!

One way to get rid of popups is to disable java but it also makes alot of web pages suck!
