    Virus/worm alerts - Busy day

yikes...these were all from todays alerts...

W32.Hunch@mm is a mass-mailing worm that modifies the Autoexec.bat file in an attempt to format drive C. It deletes all .ocx, .sys, and .dll files from the C:\_RESTORE folder, and deletes other files that have a randomly chosen extension.

W32.Porma@mm is a mass-mailing worm that sends itself to all contacts in the Microsoft Outlook address book. It copies itself as C:\http.www.sex.com.

A virus that has bugs. Too funny.

I can just see it now. "No thanks I don't want THAT version of the virus.. I'll wait for version 2. Thank YOU very much!!"

Odd that the number of new viruses (or modifications of old ones) for Windows seems to be at an all time high at the moment. Maybe they are after all those home users who got a new PC for Christmas? Looks like it is worth paying for that AV scanner after all

People writing virus's for a system is not really the manufacturers fault. Its the malicious little f#cks who get their kicks out of causing people trouble, and costing industry lotsa $$$...

I mean, everyone's favourite, linux, is just as vulnerable to virus's as Windows is... its just that the virus writers don't write as many for linux as they do for windows... mainly because Windows is more widely used.....

This is a big world and imho all AV vendors should cooperate a bit more then they do today. The first thing they should work out is a name standard.. Most of all virus threats have different names at different vendors and that *ucks.

It's always a minor problem for me when handlig several AV products (2 different at work and another at home), it's always a searching for the latest updates and verifying of their capability to discover all new threats.

Some more info to this thread from McAfee Avert.
