Get a router and practise "safe hex", oh and don't open attachments from people you don't know...

Actually I agree with hexadecimal. Trend Micro Internet Suite 2006 and now 2007 are all that you would need, other then the above aforementioned...tried both AVG and Avast and of the two if you go the free route I would give Avast the thumbs up..

On this PC I have Trend Micro for anti spyware, which is very good. I imagine their anti virus product is equally useful, if you're prepared to look at products that aren't free.

The best antivirus is...common sense. I quit running AV apps since I
started wiping off everybody's butt who's already infected. Keep your
pants on and you won't need antivirus. The best AV in the world won't
cover you if you're an id10t.

That might have held true once, but nowadays you either severely restrict your internet activities and enjoyment, or you protect your system. Plus, my PCs for instance have more than just myself using them and I cannot guarantee the common sense of other users.

I've always thought that the best AV was common sense...
Real security doesn't come with an installer.

I am a fan of AVG...its free, easy to use and seems to catch just about everything. Much better than any of the Norton or McAfee crap.

I have in installed on a number of work machines and even suggested it to people both in and outside the company. It updates every day and doesn't cost a dime. However, if your just an trusting idiot then no AV will save you.

Anyone know if the AVG anti-spam is any good? Or perhaps what the best anti-spam is...either free or not...but preferably free.

I think he means anti-spyware? Well AVG acquired Ewido, which made a very nice anti-spyware product, so AV-anti-spyware is basically Ewido with the AVG interface?

AVG do anti spyware as well? It's probably a good program, that makes more sense than anti spam! I wish AVG would come up with an anti spam program, especially at the moment, it seems to be worse than ever.

Trend Micro do an anti spyware program which is very good too.
