Article: GPL 'flawed', but MS Loves Open Source
Linux distributors Red Hat and S.u.S.E are failing the technology industry by giving away software, Microsoft's chief technical officer says. Read it here.
The community at large tends to lump them together, but there is no real relationship between the historical benefits of an open source model of development and what the free software foundation is trying to achieve with the GPL.
This is a very good point. But i doubt that MS really loves open source as much as is claimed in the interview.

I think they are off the mark. From what I gather they equate 'lots of money' with 'the next great software', the 'next breakthrough'. Which I find utter preposterous. Some of the biggest advances have been made in err.
However, I do believe money=bureaucracy.
Mankind have a great aversion to intellectual labor; but even supposing knowledge to be easily attainable, more people would be content to be ignorant than would take even a little trouble to acquire it.

I'll believe Microsoft when they publish their
source code. They don't have to make it free.
Just publish it, and we can intelligently
compare their code with their competitors'.
When you buy a can of beans, there must
be a label telling you what's in the can.
You have a right to know what's inside
the software. and what it might do
to your system.
I came in to the world with nothing. I still have most of it.

I'll tell you what, when and if they publish, I'll let you give me the low-down when you're done running through the millions of lines of code they have.
I get a headache just thinking about code, especially M$ code.
