    Google and https

    hey all..

did you know Google indexed about 3.8 milion https files.
    http://www.google.com/search?num=50&...rch&lr=lang_nl
although they promised they wouldn't, they deleted that promis but it is still in their cache

    http://www.google.com/search?q=cache...hl=en&ie=utf-8

Your pages are not publicly available: Google only indexes publicly available web pages. Secure sites (https:) are not included in the Google index.
to check if ur pages are added:
    search for:

    allinurl: https site:urdomain.net

    where urdomain.net is your domain

    dutch readers: www.voelspriet.nl or http://www.voelspriet.nl/google13.htm

Go figure, a search engine that gets paid to advertise isn't telling the truth. WOW I am serprised!-NOT- I think that this is a load of **** and google should be punished.

No really. This isn't that big of a deal. At least I don't see one with it. So what if they index your site. I know what your thinking, but if someone wants to know about a compaines public site it is easilly enuff to find out.

Any other view points I would like to hear.

If they promised they wouldn't do it, then they shouldn't do it.

JinX, I looked, but all the sites listed merely include the word 'HTTPS'. I looked for several sites, and didn't turn up anything.

    I did:
    Code:
    allinurl:https site:microsoft.com
    allinurl:https site:yahoo.com
    allinurl:https site:amazon.com
    allinurl:https site:ebay.com
    allinurl:https site:<our domain here at my workplace>

ummm so what's the issue here...

https means nothing as far as keeping a site "private"...it simply means that any connections will be made using ssl...if i wanted to...i could https all the pages on my site...and all it would do is slow down the page requests a bit...everyone could still acccess them...

ssl and https have nothing to do with keeping stuff private...for that you need to set up directory permissions...-w-r-x etc in unix land and folder permissions in IIS land that keeps things private...https keep em secure..

my guess is google delisted them because ssl slowed down googlebot...

I may be confused, but I think that google is only saying that they may not index your page, not that they won't index your page....

I could be wrong, but I don't see the issue here...
