    Thumbs up Online with LINUX

    Wow this is wierd.
I got my RH7.2 linux system on the internet.
    But it's wierd.
I guess I'm just not used to it yet.
There are lots of confusing programs to configure,
I think I succeeded by random chance.

How do you shut down your connection when you,re done?
I have dial up with a local ISP
I still can't connect with my mail server(from same ISP)
and I suspect that I haven't got my modem set to max speed.

    man, those menus are confusing!
Lucky I found a driver for the winmodem!
I came in to the world with nothing. I still have most of it.

you should write what do use(which application) but you can type in ab shell:
ps -ax and you can see all processes they are running ,
    like:
    23992 pts/0 S 0:00 login -- dieterle81
    23993 pts/0 S 0:00 -bash
    24001 pts/0 R 0:00 ps ax

and then you can kill 9 <id>
the id is the first number at the line.

    hope that helps

    cheers,
the only thing that doesn\'t change is everything will always change.

to get mail you going to have to configure your mail client with the setting you get from your isp, the name of both the smtp amd pop3 servers. usually their different.

    smtp.myisp.com
    pop.myisp.com

    or something along those lines.

    rcgreen,
It looks as if, correct me if I am wrong, you are a little new to linux in general. Anyway, I know you will have a lot of more questions about linux and other things in it, so allow me to direct you to a book instead, it is online, and there is no coast involved. {Redhat Linux Unleashed} It helped me out a lot and I believe that it will help you too. Anyway, here is the link to it, and I would be willing to bet that it will answer your qestion.

Hmm, something is wrong with the link, it is too long for some reason, that is odd. Well, I will cut it in half, just paste these three links into your address bar. http://www.soldierx.com/books/

    Thumbs up

I got the POP and SMTP servers entered,
but it asked for a password and I got confused.
I guess it wants the same one as for internet service, DUH

I've played with free standing linux boxes for a couple
of years, but am inexperienced with networking.
I've only had my windows machine on the internet
for less than a year, and I thought that was a lot of
    configuration.

I have a book. Now I gotta read more and play less.
I came in to the world with nothing. I still have most of it.
