Its an interesting theory IMO, but let's see if it is really used...

    'IceCubes' to Solve Computer Problems

IBM researchers have developed a theoretical new design for servers, which should reduce human involvement in the upkeep of the system to almost zero.

The servers would be made up of stacks of "intelligent computer bricks" called IceCubes, which would be able to automatically detect when a single brick was not functioning, and send data through other routes. The whole thing would be water-cooled.

Information would be transmitted very quickly between the cubes, because they are connected to another on each of their six sides - as opposed to today's clusters, connected by wires. The IceCubes should run for 5 years before repairs are needed.

This is bad news; I don't want to be replaced by an intelligent computer brick.
Its not software piracy. Im just making multiple off site backups.

    Yeah...
Still, "intelligent" computers... I guess it's possible, until M$ get their hands on 'em, then the 'puters will lose the will to live, and forget how to be intelligent.

I can see Ice Cubes as being a fix for my Windows box... just leave them to melt on top of the power supply
