Post As If pop-up ads weren't bad enough

    Rant Mode = On

What's the deal? First we had ad banners, then came the dawn of the Pop-up ads, Now thanks to the advancement of technology: Ad sites that can modify the look of your web browser. Not to mention the downloadable Ad applications that are popping up as well. http://www.usatoday.com/life/cyber/2...rowser-ads.htm Isn't technology wonderful! IMHO

    rpm -e `rpm -qa | egrep ^netscape`
    rpm -ivh lynx

    Rant Mode = Off

Luckily most of these ad companies have nicely named their ad machines ad.adcompany.com or the like... takes about ten seconds to add a general block on a firewall for them (but is generally annoying to have to do). Galeon, OTOH, has a nice new feature (well, new to the browsing community, not to it): Allow Popups. It nicely kills the javascript openwindow "feature" (though has the added side-effect of making it also not always work on the "clickable" popups). Oh well... sites that depend on javascript are evil, anyway.

Just another way for them to spam us. The internet is just getting more and more closed ended.

Erm, actually, it's "ow32enen601.exe" if you're downloading the version without java

Anyhoo, what kind of code can do this? Is it java or something, or just another friendly "feature" of the .NET environment?

From the article, it sounds like this program manipulates some of the functions that are in netscape and IE. Probably the functions that allow for themes. If this is a plugin or some thing that gets installed, I am unsure. But the article says that the company United Virtualities has a program called "Ooqa Ooqa," . The firms Chief of Staff Ivan Entel says "The idea is to enhance the user experience and not deprive him or her of normal features they are used to,"

I guess they didn't hear that web ads were drying up.
