W2K Domains
I just want to know, is it possible to setup a Domain name server in W2K PRO and WIN XP PRO? If yes, how? (like when a client logs on, it veriflies the user name and password on a certain domain...)

lawrence171, do you want a Domain Name Server (DNS) ...or... full Windows Domain Controller (like an Active Directory domain)?
You need to remember that Windows xx without a Domain Controller is a simple a Workgroup environment (all the users accounts, including password, needs to be created in each computer).

To have true DNS server you have to be running win2k server...you can set up a workgroup...but that really doesn't do the authentication thingie...bout best you can do is set up a central "file sharer"...not actually a server...and then set permissions based on folders and files on the one system...
be aware this only works for up to 10 concurrent connections...
EDIT:....this isn't to say that there isn't 3rd party software available ...i found...

never used it...but has a 14 day free trial ..and full version is only 150bucks...
google some more...i'm sure there are lots...
