What the media hasn't told you.

Apparently, Benjamin Netanyahu gave an interview and was asked about
Israel's occupation of Arab lands -- his response was "It's our land."
The reporter (I think it was CNN or the like) was stunned -- read below
    "it's our land..."

It's important information to know since we don't get fair and accurate reporting from the media and facts tend to get lost in the jumble of
    daily events.

Crash Course on the Arab Israeli Conflict

Here are overlooked facts in the current Middle East situation. These
were compiled by a Christian university professor.
HERE'S THE BRIEF FACTS ON THE ISRAELI CONFLICT TODAY....Takes just 1.5
minutes to read!!!! It makes sense and it's not slanted.
    Thank You.

    1. Nationhood and Jerusalem. Israel became a nation in 1312 B.C.E., two
thousand years before the rise of Islam.

    2. Arab refugees in Israel began identifying themselves as part of a
Palestinian people in 1967, two decades after the establishment of the
    modern State of Israel.

    3. Since the Jewish conquest in 1272 B.C.E., the Jews have had dominion
over the land for one thousand years with a continuous presence in the
land for the past 3,300 years.

    4. The only Arab dominion since the conquest in 635 C.E. lasted no more
    than 22 years.

    5. For over 3,300 years, Jerusalem has been the Jewish capital.
Jerusalem has never been the capital of any Arab or Muslim entity. Even when the
Jordanians occupied Jerusalem, they never sought to make it their
capital, and Arab leaders did not come to visit.

    6. Jerusalem is mentioned over 700 times in Tanach, the Jewish Holy
Scriptures. Jerusalem is not mentioned once in the Koran.

    7. King David founded the city of Jerusalem. Mohammed never came to
    Jerusalem.

    8. Jews pray facing Jerusalem. Muslims pray facing Mecca. (edit for Guus)

    9. Arab and Jewish Refugees: In 1948 the Arab refugees were encouraged
to leave Israel by Arab leaders promising to purge the land of Jews.
Sixty-eight percent left without ever seeing an Israeli soldier.

    10. The Jewish refugees were forced to flee from Arab lands due to Arab
    brutality, persecution and pogroms.

    11. The number of Arab refugees who left Israel in 1948 is estimated to
be around 630,000. The number of Jewish refugees from Arab lands is
    estimated to be the same.

    12. Arab refugees were INTENTIONALLY not absorbed or integrated into
the Arab lands to which they fled, despite the vast Arab territory. Out of
the 100,000,000 refugees since World War II, theirs is the only refugee
group in the world that has never been absorbed or integrated into their own
peoples' lands. Jewish refugees were completely absorbed into Israel, a
country no larger than the state of New Jersey.

    13. The Arab - Israeli Conflict: The Arabs are represented by eight
separate nations, not including the Palestinians. There is only one Jewish
nation. The Arab nations initiated all five wars and lost. Israel defended
    itself each time and won.

    14. The P.L.O.'s Charter still calls for the destruction of the State
of Israel. Israel has given the Palestinians most of the West Bank land,
autonomy under the Palestinian Authority, and has supplied them.

    15. Under Jordanian rule, Jewish holy sites were desecrated and the
Jews were denied access to places of worship. Under Israeli rule, all Muslim
and Christian sites have been preserved and made accessible to people of
    all faiths.

    16. The U.N. Record on Israel and the Arabs: of the 175 Security
Council resolutions passed before 1990, 97 were directed against Israel.

    17. Of the 690 General Assembly resolutions voted on before 1990, 429
    were directed against Israel.

    18. The U.N was silent while 58 Jerusalem Synagogues were destroyed by
    the Jordanians.

    19. The U.N. was silent while the Jordanians systematically desecrated
the ancient Jewish cemetery on the Mount of Olives.

    20. The U.N. was silent while the Jordanians enforced an apartheid-like
policy of preventing Jews from visiting the Temple Mount and the
    Western Wall.

Dude, very good reading. I'd give points but I have that message to spread them out, hehe...
We the willing, led by the unknowing, have been doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have done so much with so little for so long that we are now qualified to do just about anything with almost nothing.

This is a bunch of bull. Muslims pray facing Mecca, a town approximatly 800 miles south of Jerusalem (See this map - the red star is Mecca (Makkah)). So, only the muslims living in the area between Mecca and Jerusalem pray facing Jerusalem. Most of the muslims worldwide aren't even facing away more than a few degrees.

As far as 'owning' the country: where does Netanyahu base that on? Historical facts? Who was there first? Come on, those aren't arguments! I know of a complete continent that used to have other people 'owning' it - and the beautiful part about that is that those people didn't understand the meaning of 'owning' land. They felt they were living on it, taking just the amount of resources they needed.

I was waiting for someone to notice that.

Let's not get overly obtuse about this. Save for the praying thing (which is moot anyway) nothing in there is bull. The point of that was to emphasize that Jerusalem has no REAL value in their religion, not to insult anyone.

As for the comment by Netanyahu, owning the land is point of the conflict, or am I just smoking grass? Land is the basis of the conflict. As for the first people to occupy that land, it's all conjecture, no one is going to argue the fact that the U.S. was stolen outright, etc. etc. So maybe I'm not catching your point of that....

Actually, I goofed. Mecca isn't situated in Israel, as I stated earlier. It's located in Saudi Arabia. The town I was referring to was Mekka (the Dutch translation) which is a small town in Israel.

Still, my reasoning stands: Telling people that they pray facing away from Jerusalem suggests that they do so out of disrespect. That's not the case, they just pray towards their holy city.

What I wanted to say is that I feel that none of the two parties 'owns' the land more than the others do. Both of the parties are equally responsible for the killings, the fighting, the hatred and the pain in the region. Something that both religions try to avoid.

If your are saying that Prophet Muhammad never step his foot in Jerusalem you are wrong... and your unfair judgement really bother me. Well, I know that your are Jewish. In Qoran it state that JEWISH people don't know how to 'thank you' from what their GOD has do to help them. You can try to read how Jewish are asking a nonsense thing after Prophet Moses help them running from The Pharoah. I dont want to say anymore here because we should discuss about Computer, AND not arguing about thing that are not related.

    Guus-
Absolutely. I couldn't agree with more. And I will go further than you on that and say that Sharon and Arafat should step down. Both of those bitter old men have a personal vendetta against each other and as such cannot properly lead their people to peace.

Whether you like the fact or not people/countries do own land.

I personally agree with the indigenous Americans beliefs as far as land but that's not the point of the thread so I won't go into that.

P.S. I edited that fact for you.....They are now all facts.
