    Avarage price?

    Hi there,
I'm currently planning to set up my own company as a webdesigner. But I'm tottaly new to this. Do any of you guys know the avarage price of creating a website? Or how a webdesigner calculates his price? And if the site is created, what will it cost to keep the webdesigner to updat your site? How's does this work? Is the client paying the webdesigner on a monthly basis for updating his site?

Please help! I would really appreciate it!

well... there is no standard... price depends on the amount of work, your skill, the amount of experience you have, the amount of work to maintain and so on... there is no standard... besides what do you know how to do... since you are starting your own business.

also you better start looking into tax laws and business declaration and copyrights and such... or you will be getting major fines and jail time.

Yeah I know that it depends on expertise, but, how do I know I'm not "overpricing" my customers? Or maybe even "underpricing". By the way, I have an accountant that looks into my bussines's financial ****. So I don't have to worry about that.

I created this site, it's a simpel design but it has a few flash pieces in it. I created it for free for a friend of mine. But what should I get for a site like this? Here's the site , it's in Dutch, but that should not make any difference in your judgement. Check the "Zoftware Navigatie" on the left of the screen, it's a flash menu. Please give me some info here, so I can base my price on something.

    Thnx

Don't you know anybody who's already in the business? Seems like they would be the best one's to ask.

well i am in the business, but i am in america... so prices are diferent here. for the page you are showing, i would prolly only charge like i dunno, somewhere in between $500 and $1000, depending how established you are.... since you are just starting out you have to price lower because no one knows your talent. you should be happy to get a couple hundred and hope that word spreads about you. besides you also have to take in to account how much a pain in the ass the code was to write and how big a pain the customer was (if they sent you back to change it all a bunch of times... then youwant to tack on more and say for excess labor.)

Whatever you decide to charge...be sure to set up a contract form which spells out exactly what is expected by both parties...

    things to include...

Scope of the project - exactly what they want and what you will provide
time frame - How long for each phase
responsibilities - who's providing hosting, content etc.
Extra charges, Contingency funds for intial design
Completion point - just what is complete
Post completion fees - what you will charge for updates, modifications
Liability - ie protect yourself if the customer decides to host child porn or terrorist crap

    And the big one....
Who owns what - is the code you create theirs or yours

i can't stress how important this is...no big deal if you are designing as a hobby...but if you plan to make a living at it...it is an absolute must...
