WinXP networking
Hi every one !
I'm experiencing a little pb under winXP pro : i've set up a three-computer switched network.
All the comps run under the same os.
Everything's ok : internet connection sharing, file and printer sharing works very well.
But 2 of the 3 computers are constantly exchanging data... even when no program is currently running. (the leds of the switch are constantly blinking)
I installed a packet sniffer and i found that they were sending data aver ports 1069 and 2869 (tcp).Theses ports seem to correspond to icslap and cognex insight.
Does anyone have an idea on what it can be ?

Answer:
Turn off Network monitor on either or both of the machines...this will stop the exchange.
The QoS packet Scheduler might be it too or, service advertising Protocol... I'd like to know if you've Updated all computers too...

If they are constantly exchanging data that is quite normal, its probably NetBios requests from one computer to the other (you did say you have file and print sharing enbled, right?) Its pretty common for that to happen, I have a home network and I also have activity 24/7

Why would you want NetBIOS enabled? I heard it does more harm (hackers) than good...?

Marsalus75 : yes, i updated all the computers (windows update). The latest updates are installed.
But where can i find the network monitor ?
As for NetBios, if i disable it, will file sharing continue working ?

Computers on networks are always sending out broadcast just to see who's around. Oh and always disable NetBIOS.
Its not software piracy. I’m just making multiple off site backups.
