    0/0

    An interesting mathematical dilemma:

    0/0=?

Three absolutes (as I was taught):

Anything divided by zero is undefined
Zero divided by anything is zero
Anything divided by itself is one

What is your opinion on this? (give reasons)

Personally, I hold 0/0=0 since if there is zero of anything, there cannot be one of it, and anything over itself should have some defineable value.
Preliminary operational tests were inconclusive (the dang thing blew up)

I think its mathematically impossible, nothing cannot be divided by nothing..... It would equal nothing (0)... Same with multiplying it.... 0x0=0
Ill ask my algebra teacher and see what she says

it's really an interesting question, I asked 4 of my friends and 75% answer undefined and one of them answer 0. but for myself i don't have the answer cause it's all possible answer for me.. cause it's all the way our teacher teach us from past untill forever (i think)......

it's really a dilemma for math world
I am newbie who want to be programmer (~6~)

Well, if it is 0, then two of them other rules would have to be said to be incorrect!! It's really interesting. It seems simple, but it's not...it's complex. Hmmm...I dunno, I'd have to say 0 as well, but with all these rules, it's all of them, but it can't be...if you know what I mean.

/me puts equation into good ol' win95 calculator

according to it 0/0 = cannot divide by zero

but anything divided by itself is always one - isn't it ????

I think I need to go lye down

0/0 should be undefined, at least in our regular 'has to equal an absolute' math world ... Go to a higher level if you want the answer...? Converting math to english has posed several problems as defined in the english language... Specifically, double negetives...

I say this because of how a teacher said stuff a long time ago about pizza, and the people who want it. You have two pieces, 1 person. They get both... etc... There's no pizza, Nobody wants it = Nobody Gets It... But, this formula normally solves something like each person gets x pieces..., but in this case there are no people... Normal math doesn't look into that... ... Oh well..., I'm confusing myself again...

I just thought of this: English and Math conencide...
    0 * 0 = 0
Nothing Nothing Times = Something (Because of Double Negetives)
    0 / 0 = 0
Nothing For Nobody = Something For Anybody (Because of Double Negetives)

I might be doing double negetives wrong, but then again, I don't go around asking stuff like "Yes or No... Can't I not stay inside?"

I may have really confused people with this...

0/0 is 0 in all math classes.... from elementary school all the way through calculus... no really confusing theories needed.

It's like dividing three apples into 0 packs. You would get 0 apples. I can't see why dividing 0 by 0 would get you anything else, apart from 0. It really messes with your mind though. It's like a multiple negative. I don't not want to divide that.

Don't not??...Hmmm...does that mean that you do want to divide it?? Man, I'm more confused now!!

    <criminal> I don't know nuthin'

double negative - by not knowing nothing then obviously you know something
