U.S. fears 'cyberattacks' by Chinese armed forces

Recently I set my router to deny all packets from SE Asia. Most thought this was a little bit extreme. After reading this, I’d say its time to black hole all of Asia. i mean, as far as the english speaking world goes, the only thing we get from asia on the net is spam, hack attempts, internetworms and kiddie pron.

I got this link off a post on neworder:

U.S. fears 'cyberattacks' by Chinese armed forces
    BY ERIC LICHTBLAU
    Los Angeles Times Service

WASHINGTON - U.S. intelligence officials believe the Chinese military is working to launch wide-scale ''cyberattacks'' on American and Taiwanese computer networks, including Internet-linked military systems considered vulnerable to sabotage, according to a classified CIA report.
Moreover, U.S. authorities are bracing for a possible wave of hacking attacks by Chinese students against the United States in coming weeks, according to the analysis. The confidential alert, which was reviewed by The Los Angeles Times, was sent to intelligence officials a week ago.
Although U.S. officials have voiced concerns about individual hackers in China who have defaced federal and private websites, the United States has resisted publicly linking the Chinese government to those attacks or to broader cyberstyle warfare.
The new CIA report, however, makes clear that U.S. intelligence analysts have become increasingly concerned that authorities in Beijing are actively planning to damage and disrupt U.S. computer systems through the use of Internet hacking and computer viruses.

Very interesting. Actually.. to be honest, i had a feeling.. Something like this would happen.

Everytime something happens in the 3rd world, or wutever.. The U.S. ALWAYS jumps in. *sighs* I sometimes wonder =/

Anyway. Glad to see that this problem is fixed. Thanks for the heads up..Tedob1.

Is it just me, or does that sound a little rascist?

Well technically no it isn't racism. Racism involves discrimination because of a person's race. What Tedob1 proposed was more like exclusion by geographical location. Still it's not a very nice thing to do but Tedob1 makes an interesting point. There seems to be a lot of this unwanted stuff coming out of Asia.

This is a worrying quote from the article itself:

Although the assessment concludes that China has not yet acquired the technical sophistication to do broad damage to U.S. and Taiwanese systems, it maintains that this is the ''intended goal'' of the People's Liberation Army in China.
I'm wondering how much "technical sophistication" a person needs to launch a DDOS attack. This is kiddies stuff. I think they're being a little niave with this comment.

I think you've contradicted yourself. It sounds like racism to me. Especially when the geographical location is entirely one race of people. What about this line-

OK here's the thing: discrimination by geographical location IS NOT racism. This is simply because racism is discrimination based on race, not based on where you live. Even if all the people in Asia are Asian (which they're not) it still wouldn't be racism. Why? Because you're not being motivated by the fact that these people are of Asian descent, just the fact that the IP they have belongs to a certain domain. So what you're really talking about is IPism .

The fact that the poeple in this location are mainly Asian doesn't matter. The fact that the people in this location spew forth vast amounts of crap does. See the difference?

English speaking world? That's gotta be racism....
No because not all the who speak English are of the same race. My mate at work is from Singapore - he is Asian and I am of Anglo-Saxon origin. But we both are English speaking. You've gotta be more careful when throwing around the word racism.

I'm not saying that IPism (or location-ism) is right but it's not racism.

Hehe, there was something funny said on the news about her last night. I can't believe that this air head of a women got famous enough for people from other countries to take the piss out of Aussies for it. It's pathetic that she ever got that far .

Don't get me wrong, I agree with what you and Tedbo1 are saying, I was just trying to see things from another point of view. The majority of attacks in my logs originate from Korea...

But I think blocking a whole region because of a few bad eggs is a little extreme. English speaking or not.....EVERYONE should be entitled to a censorship fee internet....

I understand where you're coming from. It's always good that people can have a decent debate without it descending into flame wars.

I agree with you. Blocking everyone's access in a whole region because of the irresponsible actions of a minority is wrong. But I do believe that some things have to be censored. The main one being kiddie porn. That's where I draw the line.

Well it is harsh to block all ip's coming for SE Asia, but if its just your personal computer who cares. But if you were to block all SE Asia ip's from a web server I would say that that’s not really in the sprit of the whole global village thing.

Just out of curiosity how did you find out witch ip come from SE Asia.
Its not software piracy. I’m just making multiple off site backups.
