Hacker ?? good ???????????????

Guys... currently me and my friend are doing some research about programming hacker.. and we have a little bit different opinion about hacker...

the queastion is : Is hacker good ??

he said: hacker is bad, and people who hack after get permission from someone to hack his/her system is not hacker...(don't know what it's name ???)

my opinion: hacker is better. i mean i know hacker is hacking to system but as long as he/she doesn't do destructive thing he/she is hacker.. otherwise cracker....

What you guys think ??
