    Help!disaster Help!!

I would like to get some info from AO members
I am involved in implementing a disaster plan for a non profit organization.
    for helping people in need.
it is confined to network relocation and data back up

basicly say the building currently in use is destroyed
and we have to relocate and use another building
    and network.

I have some ideas but many heads are better than one.

It would be greatly appreciated if u would put your 2 cents in
also we have to implement a data storage plan

we need all aspects of disaster planning
buildings that will provide space and resources, say libraries, schools, things of that nature.
data back up and storage and handling.

    Thank You All

E5C4P3, the first thing you should do is make the organization understand that DRP is not and IT issue, it is a business issues and must be driven from the business. IT will play a part in a DRP, but only a part. Having all your systems back up and running will do you no good at all if allowances haven't been made for such things as employee work space, transportation, and how issues will be managed in the event an important member of the team is killed in the disaster. Don't let IT get sucked into running this whole project, it must be owned by the Business or it will fail!

Now when you say the building is distroyed, does that include the computers inside?

From what I understand, try maybe using PC Anywhere if it's windows based network....
Can access the computes from anywhere and back information up.....

Besides that, what about having swapable hardrives, the ones with the handles on the front?
Building is in trouble, just pull the drive out and split!

Or, have a few zip drives or external burners with firewire on the side, ready for quick copy/burn

    How's that?

    A few questions......

    1. How many people at the site?
    2. How many workstations, what are their capacities?
    3. How many servers on site, capacities?
    4. What software is in use, is it shrink wrapped, or custom?
    5. Quantify the value of your data, and your need to access it.
    6. What's your budget?

    cheers

ok yes all the comps will be destroyed
    lets say worst case scenario

    like terrorist attack or something
now this non profit organization has to and i mean has to be up and running within
12 hours at a basic internet service level ten has to be up at full within 24 to 48 hours

when i say basic i mean phone support access to files and such

is there someone who can help or contribute in a fudamental level

Check your PM's, I sent you a thought that might be an option for you.
(not sure if my idea will help, but like I said, it's a thought)

. . .removable storage media (hardisks, zips, an cd's), kept offsite. . .kinda a job in itself to keep all the backups current, but if the setup is small anough, one person could cut it, if that's all they were in charge of. . .or network an offsite comp. w/ alot of storage to do regular backups of critical data. . .MHO. . .B^)|
