    Cable TV Question

I have a TV Tuner in my computer, ATI TV Wonder VE and I was wondering if there is any software or any way for me to get the "other" channels which are fuzzy and scrambled? I mean the premium channels which are fuzzy and messed up. I am on the Mediaone Cable service in the New England Area.

I am new at this kind of stuff.

    Thanks Again

    *snicker*

Well at least it wasn't a "How to Hack Hotmail" question.....

In other words you want to violate your user agreement, and illegally steal cable services from your provider? Naughty naughty.

Why not just download your porn instead?

    Better yet...buy the channels?

When in doubt, check google.com or the ATI site....

yeah. uh, like Keisha said, they're scrambled for a reason. watching w/out paying is stealing.
If they weren't, I'd be watching the sopranos like the rest of the world...

I am not kidding. I know there are ways to descramble the signal when the cable is connected to the TV. I am wondering if its possible to do the same, with software, using your TV tuner and your computer.

It is entirely possible. It is also entirely illegal.

It is illegal to steal candy bars.
It is illegal to steal multi-million dollar paintings.
It is illegal to hack computers to steal your competition's trade secrets.

It is also illegal to steal services from your cable provider.

It -should- be illegal to be stupid enough to post how to break the law questions on a public forum.

Sadly, that's still being worked on.

Yes it can be done. However they can catch you. Read your TOS for Mediaone (aka ATT). They have a nice track record for monitoring their cable internet suscribers. It was in the news here a month or two ago.

{P²P}Apocalypse, do you have a link to that? I cannot find it.

As for descrambling channels on your computer, try this:

    1. Call your cable company
    2. Ask the same exact questions you asked here
    3. Make sure to give your name, address, phone number and best time to be reached
    4. Wait for the cops to knock on the door

    Or

Do the right thing and PAY for the channels. It is not as expensive as you think.

One thing I have to learned about AO, if you want info on something illegal....DO NOT ask it here! There is a lot you can learn here but that isn't one of them. This is a security site, not a how to hack and steal site.
