    Article: Why Hackers Escape

The nightmare for Ecount, an online gift certificate service, began last year when a hacker broke in to the company's system and stole personal information belonging to its customers. Nine months later, the criminal is still at large. The thief has brazenly taunted executives with repeated e-mails while staying ahead of investigators, deftly wiping away his electronic fingerprints and covering his tracks at every turn. Sounds to me like it's high time for some better security measures. And maybe releasing your credit card info online isn't as 'cool' as you think, eh?
Mankind have a great aversion to intellectual labor; but even supposing knowledge to be easily attainable, more people would be content to be ignorant than would take even a little trouble to acquire it.

bah the worst that can happen up here is a 100$ fee cause the business will always have the final responsibility cause they don't have your signature...

I don't reallly see how it is much more a problem then actually letting a bartender remove your card from your view for 30 seconds... That's all it takes to scan the magnetic strip...

I'd have to agree with Scorp, a business has recourse only if it has a signature and even then sometimes a business has no recourse. Whenever we have a dispute about payment with a client, the credit card companies warn us that they will side with the customer in most instances.

Never used paypal, or know how it works, but wouldn't the whole credit card issue work with that? You have all the info you need to register, no?

Also, wouldn't it work on (i hate to bring it up) porn sites?

i don't think its really a good idea to even keep delicate information on a computer that connects to the internet if your not a security expert.

last week, i saw a friend of mine scan for running personal web servers on aol and found one that wasn't patched, did a cmd.exe?/c+dir, and on the c directory someone had their ms-money files. he didn't download them, but he could have. im sure this person didn't even know they had this service running.

Coinstar; as the radio advertisments go; hand out disposable credit cards. You put the money into the machine, and out pops a card. I guess, I haven't seen one with credit card capabilities yet.

I would think that way, would be one of the best, if you were to buy something over the internet, with a credit card.

I buy on the net all the time, never had a problem so far... Of course I buy from companies I can call and that have physical facilities not "pure"online stores without even a phone number... There is an insurance fee hidden in credit cards transactions that covers fraud so I don't really worry...
