    anti virus for server

I've got my computer set up as a server running Windows 2000 and my anytvirus software (Nortan) will not work on it. Is there anyway to configure it so it will work or do I have to get a special program to work on a server?

By "will not work on it", what do you mean? Won't install, installs but won't start, any error messages? What version of Norton are you using?

it installs but will not start, I get some error message saying it cannot operate in current envoirnment (or some thing like that). I'm not at home at the moment so I'm not sure what the version number is but I just bought it the other day so I assume it's the latest one

If you are running windows 2000 advanced server or nt 4.0 you will need a special version of Norton, I believe you are trying to install the desktop version.

Not sure if this is going to help you Mate but this Info. is right from the Symantec site:

"Norton AntiVirus 2002 is not supported on the following operating systems:
    Windows NT Server
    Windows 2000 Server
    Windows Terminal Server Edition"

If you bought the latest edition of Norton, it is likely Norton AntiVirus 2002, and judging from the above comments.....your hooped.

Hopefully I'll be able to return the version of Norton I have and get a version that will work (I know the manager in the shop where I bought it so I have some chance).
    Anyway thanks for the information.

Hopefully it doesnít cost you too much. Some of those antivirus programs for servers can get a little pricy.
Its not software piracy. Iím just making multiple off site backups.

Corporate Edition will work as an 'un-managed / stand-alone' install, but like cwk9 said, because it is intended for an enterprise environment, the price will go up. (likely way up)
