If you can't install and run Mandrake. You should'nt try Unix. Mandrake has got to be the easiest of the Linux distros to install. If you have windows on your box already. Get Partition Magic and resize your windows partition. Then leave enough free space to install Mandrake. Say for instance resize your windows partition to leave 6GB freespace of unformated partition with no filesystem. Then shut down your PC and boot from the #1 CD of Mandrake and it will do the rest including putting in LILO so you can select which OS to boot into. It's that simple.

Windows NT crashed,I am the Blue Screen of Death.

FreeBSD is the closest free thing to UNIX... it is UNIX, the maker of UNIX made FreeBSD after he sold UNIX to eitehr IBM or HP i forget which one....

anyway, if you learned UNIX and want UNIX, get FreeBSD, its very good...

but like the rest said, if u cant handle linux, u DEFINATELY cant handle UNIX.

I say give UNIX a try if you have an extra computer to play around with. And if you f**k everything up and fail miserably then give Linux a try.
Its not software piracy. I’m just making multiple off site backups.

here are 2 of a FEW places....
    1 is www.freebsd.org
    2 is www.linuxiso.org

Again... BSD is harder then Linux.... really i suggest starting with linux, the commands are the same, just certain directories are named differently.... once u get comfterable with linux i suggest moving up to BSD or something like that, but start with linux, its a good place to start.
