    hosts file in windows/unix

A recent article I read regarding the hosts file in Windows and UNIX (random_name_2001.tripod.com/security/hosts.php) had an interesting section regarding a technique in which a person uses a small proxy server to log all HTTP POST commands on their system as a way to gather information. (I believe it is section 4 in the article). Does anyone have any idea as to how I should go about doing this. The article is extremely vague. (Please don't redirect me to google as I have already attempted researching this with very unsucessfull results). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

what do you plan to do with the info...you might just be re-inventing the wheel.
