dvd player/viewer for linux?
i have a dvd drive on my box, i also am running red hat and w2k i was wodering if any one knows of a dvd player for linux..... so that i dont have to always run w2k to play them.....
is there one that plays dvds and files?

I rips0red a dvd (wich I own so totaly legal ; ) and typed: xine /wincrap/F&F/*.VOB and could watch..
as 4 DVD's them selves.. you might need some plugins wich are linked on xine.sf.net also.

yeah, xines great, itll basicly run anything you throw at it. and it dosnt really do all the crappy buffering that winblows media player tries to do. just open the file and go. it provides all my video viewing time

xine can only play unencrypted DVDs try http://www.dtek.chalmers.se/groups/dvd/
the only problem is that you have to have an i686 or higher proccessor.

well i dont have a DVD but it seems to play everything that i give it....... my guess is that if your lucky enuf to live where DeCCS is legal then use that to get the .vob files out, i think thatll take care of the encryption problems (if i understand what this whole **** about it is about)

I was using OMS for a bit and that worked well but it hadn't been maintained for a while. I checked out Mplayer at MPlayerHQ but I had some issues getting it to complie. I haven't tried the latest build yet.

xine will play encrypted dvd's if its compiled with libcss and libdvdread, and if you add the xine-dvdnav plugin it does dvd menus

i tried to install the DEcss files for xine but could not get them to work. Ogle player worked perfectly.
