Question:
And, not to be sexist or anything... For that ratio, how does that change if you take out the online shopping aspect of it?
Answer:
but then women and men look for different things on the internet.

I think we all have things we do online, and to say that women are online only to be shopping is like saying men are only on the internet looking at porn. Everyone has their own needs that they fulfill online, just like everything else. I for one am very glad that the number of women identifying themselves as women has increased at AO. It makes me feel like I have a bit more of a "group" that I fit in with, and I will be glad to have other female insight into some of the conversations that occur here.
I was just thinking that same thing earlier today. There is a growing population of women that are posting.
Guess you got rid of that anti-girl code VictorKaum and I were always joking about then, huh?

I'm not going to dispute that assertion, but what I meant was that I can imagine that a large percentage of the 'online population' used for that ratio consists of how people have signed up at large online retailers. I'm not saying that women buy more than men or anything, but considering the possible SIZE of the group included there, it's omission could change the statistics significantly.

Terr: I understood what you were saying, I was just pointing out that the converse is also true. Honestly I think that if we took away all the people who use the internet solely for e-mail, porn, and shopping, we'd have a handful of people with very pale skin and large pupils who need to get out more...lol!!

P.S.
I have noticed several really prominent female members like GreekGoddess, TechieChick, debwalin and several others [sorry for not namechecking other frequent posters] - this is really inspirational!
I feel all warm and cuddly inside now...thanks!!

She made important advances in reducing errors by creating a program to translate programmer's code to machine language. She and her staff developed Flow-matic, the first programming language to use English words.

Grace Murray Hopper invented the concept of a "programming language."
Ada Lovelace, is said to have introduced the ideas of program loops and subroutines and is sometimes considered the first programmer.

I've just started to sell online in the past week. That's one reason I haven't been around here much. There's nothing like trying to learn image editing, HTML, and use of a scanner and digital camera all on a need-to-know-yesterday basis! Too much to do, too little time. And definitely...
too little sleep!

Cmon Deborah (debwalin) TC GG etc etc You know you want to :P
On a serious note its nice to see females here as they can bring a new prospective to things. I know IRL a load of female computer users who would beat the ass off most of us techie boys in this small town.
If one thing the more women becoming techies the more chance you have if not being turned down with the reason "No offence but your geeky.>"
