Yeah, I believe that he dosen't encourage s'kiddioism. So, why the hell not bring him here? I mean, it's a great forum, site, and IRC chat. He has served his time. He could write lots of tutorials. Tell us some stories to keep us occupied(I'm sure he has plenty of things he could tell us about his life). I don't want script kiddies being brought here, I'm sure he dosen't either. He even works with security now, isn't that what we are here for, security? So, I would prefer he kept it secret that he joined AO. Augh, I hope that we don't get little script kiddies posing as him(just poped into my head). But, I guess it won't happen, if this dosen't get out to the media. But, I think it would be great to bring him, and the guy who caught him in here, it would be great knowledge to have from him and the guy who caught him. They could contribute to this community lots, and have lots of knowledge to share and teach us.

    Thanks for your time~

yeah he was dumb and served his time,
Some ppl say he had to get frends to code his expliots for his, and he hacked the sites all the same way, social engineering, sendmail and finger.

Some of those covicted hackers later reform to become, pretty good security consultants, and AO needs more aspects of computer security it could do with two arguements ex-hackers + admins, balance is the key!

dont turn this thread into flame wars, i know how kevin mitnick is frowned apon, ty v much,

And in the system he has served his time, for the crime he comitted.

its good to see some of you has an open view to computer security, after all Jp himself interviewed many hackers #March 3, 1998, Wired News does a report on JP's interview of "The Pentagon Hacker".

remeber Ao is all about learning, if you refuse certain areas, your not gonna learn about it, and i never once said invite hackers to AO, mitnick is releasing books on computer security for ppl like us, can u imagine the threads mitnick could write? and the attention he could bring to the site

In P.S. Antionline has plenty of technical experts, and doesn't need convicted felons to contribute to it. There are no limits to knowledge, but there are limits to law...respect them.
On this, we can agree. I don't think that Mitnick is anyone special. He just socially engineered people to gain access to various systems. Big whoop. The technical techniques he used would be way outdated nowadays, as would most of his knowledge (as he's not supposed to have anything to do with computers during his parole).

Personally, I think some of the way his case was handled was shoddy as hell, but he did break the law, and he's paid his dues. I doubt he could contribute a whole hell of a lot to AO though. He'd probably have to spend a year or so catching up on how things are before his technical knowledge is up to snuff. Then again, this is all hearsay, so it doesn't really matter.

Mitnick would give AO a bad name. I just posted a reply to another Mitnick thread located here.

Kevin Mitnick wasn't a brilliant computer hacker, nor did he have any extra special talent when it came to technology. He was a social engineer, that was his talent. So to sum it up he was a talented liar. Period.

His only fame was that he avoided being caught for sometime. And got less than a fair trial. I dont understand why everyone is on his nuts....he's 38 yr old history.

i knew this would be a risky thread to post, as different people have different views on mitnick

Most of you hate him for the lack of coding ability he possesed, i dont love the guy, but this was a fictional question, to see aceptance of so called "reformed hackers", as many of these ppl become admins, and generally to see what certain people look for on antionline.

But mostly to see if there are any changes in opinion to these new statments he has made, and since he`s writing a book on computer security, if u would accept a person like that.
{any of u think the book will be any good, or is this an attention grabbing scam, im order for him to make money, and not love in prison :P]

I think anyone is welcome here as long as they know how to behave. I agree with huntx7 that he would probably like to keep it secret that he joined here. He might also feel like some advert for the site and require a big money for joining.
I noticed JP answered "Hell No" to the poll, I'd like to hear his thoughts about this?

(Btw, it's funny how this is a security site but you can not even vote as anonymous although many of us try to surf so... )
