Yeah, you have to have a video card and a monitor which support that resolution. There are plenty of 17' monitors which don't support 1600x1200, so you're going to have to look at the specs of the monitor to find out what it supports and at which refresh rates it can support that resolution. Next, you have to find a video card which also supports that resolution. As far as I know, most recent video cards should support it, but you may want to do your research online before you go out to buy something.

PS: Also, I know that my laptops (with 15' displays) can support that resolution, so I'm not sure whether a 15' flat panel display can handle that resolution... you may want to look into that, because they take up less desk space and are easier on the eyes.

1600x1200 with a 17inc monitor will make for some tiny text. If your talking about just running windows at 1600X1200 then you should't need that great of a system. But if your talking about running newer games at 1600X1200 then your going to need to buy a higher end card.

You need a video card with high enough memory to handle that kind of resolution, too.

tht's strange, i set my resolution to 1600 / 1200 and the monitor turned itself off. When I turned it back on it had returned to normal. I think a 17" would be too small for 1600, 1200 coz everything would be very small. Don't have much experience though seen as though mine turns itself off when set that high! =)

its not just a big monitor u need, u need a beefy GRFX card, for example standard svga will only run 640*480, 800*600. but anything greater than a 17"
