do u ever feel like going to the "dark side"?
Im kinda confused. The people on this site defend the name of hackers but are antihacking.. im only 15 and ever since ive gotten into computers the line separating security and hacking has been blured severely into which i have no clue which way to go... waht should i do to hold back these urges and do u ever have the feeling of going to the "dark side"???
I feel deprived because microsoft blinded me of a true OS like linux by hiding windows with \"easy\" features and a simple to use install interface. its OS\'s like linux that make this world a better place.

I may be wrong but I think a lot of people here, myself included, are intrigued and interested in the "idea" of hacking. Notice I said the idea of hacking not the actual act of it. The true concept behind hacking is learning and trying to figure out how things work and why. Sure there are temptations but is it really worth it and is that what you really want? The line between hackers and security people will always be blurred b/c the two are the same to an extent. The best way to keep hackers out is to know how to hack systems yourself (so in a way most everyone here is a hacker). There are opportunities to hack systems legally out there. You could setup your own server and try to hack it. There are a slew of competitions where servers are setup for the express purpose of having people try to hack them. The opportunities are there for you to learn and explore without committing a crime and choosing to taking advantage of those opportunities to learn instead of going out and damaging other networks is what sets real hacker/security researchers from crackers and script kiddies.

If you have an urge, do like super_phreak suggested and setup a test lan and hack to your hearts content. You will learn alot, cause nobody else any harm, and not risk law enforcement trying to track you down.
The difference between security people and hackers is that security people are in charge of trying to make systems and networks reasonably difficult to penetrate. Often the best way to test this is to try to hack the network yourself. The difference being that the security people not only have permission of the network owners to hack to their hearts content, but that they are usually well paid to do so...
Of course then you usually have the mindnumbing boredom of walking clueless sysadmins through discussions of why leaving C$ accessible by anonymous users is a bad ting (and other extremely silly things like that) ^^)

There is only one constant, one universal, it is the only real truth: causality. Action. Reaction. Cause and effect...There is no escape from it, we are forever slaves to it. Our only hope, our only peace is to understand it, to understand the 'why'. 'Why' is what separates us from them, you from me. 'Why' is the only real social power, without it you are powerless.

mmhh.. ur 15.. the stage where u figure things out yourself.. ur in a transitional age.. i really wouldnt want to influence u in someway coz i believe that a worse thing u can do to a teen is force him/her to see things your way tru your eyes than thru his or her own eyes..
but im juz tellin ya that there are consequences on what u are doing.. i just happen to choose to be in the Security side coz i got better consequences than on the Cracking side..
Cause and effect d00d.. cause and effect.. thats the source code of life..
