    What RUNS AntiOnline?

[gloworange]How do you feel AntiOnline is ran? What pushes your decision to provide your knowledge to others in the community? How do you feel about the respect or lack of, directed towards yourself by others in the AO community.[/gloworange]

I feel there are areas of the AO community and the members that do need improvement. I feel that AntiPoints are often misused and focused as the main aspect of AntiOnline, and are often the main cause of AntiOnline Greed. A user that is affected by AntiPoint Greed may engage in such activities as revenge and unrational thinking brought on by anger. Hense the huge occurance of threats, good-bye threads, and suicidal posts. This could be solved by the removing of the annonymous posts. Of, course the fear of this would be those who fear the occurance revenge. Revenge would not be a factor if, the negative post was in fact legit. In that point, if you were the target of revenge, the user could be reported by method of maybe a "Misuse of AntiPoints form". Sounds reasonable.

Another point is the actions of elders and veterans of the AO community. I feel that alot of the AO members have their ideal way AO should be ran, in fact alot of the elders and veterans have opposing opinions. However, we do all have the same expectations of all members. To increase the wealth of information shared, and the quality of posts I think everyone should lead and follow by example. With this said, a user that follows the example of a veteran should not be punished for sharing an opinion in the same manner as a veteran, as long as it is done in a positive fashion.

[glowpurple]I feel this thread should be viewed as a discussion and not a site suggestions. [/glowpurple]

It would be even more full-proof if the users nick was added automatically to reduce the chance of someone inserting a false nick, because that again would cause even more conflict.

All I can say is, that is an absolutely superb idea, and a well thought out thread... I'm suprised you held back from ranting... Great Job Fake.

overall, i really like the site. there are a few times when it gets a little immature, but that is the risk taken when you make something like this available to everyone, including the skriptkiddies.
in general, if i know i can help someone, if i have gone through the same thing, i try to help. how am i respected? i dont know. i'm not what you call l33t or anything, but i have enough knowledge to help. there have been some reddies i've gotten that i dont quite understand. the request user to reply button is fine, but no good if nobody ever contacts you.

that sounds very reasonable. my problem is that i get mr. miyagi breathing down my neck to give out reddies to people. there have been some occasions where someone REALLY deserves that reddies, so i pass it to them with a Q. i have trouble giving out reds like candy, because everyone makes mistakes. i have no right (unless its some punk telling a joke over and over) to tell this person that their opinion is wrong and they shoudl be punished with red. that, to me, seems arrogant. but since we "have to" stay balanced, i feel i have to givethem out.

    Point!!

I really think this is going somewhere, I agree with qwerty, Joey_Batch_File, Fakeboy...

I thought my idea was good as a workaround:

    Flash....IDEA!! posted Today 12:05 PM
    (post #22)

I have been watching this thread close now....I have an idea that might agree with everyones thoughts on APs....

Use the AP as a comment ( a personal one )

this is how I use this system, if I want to comment personally to a poster in a thread I use the award antipoint option if they are IMO pos then I comment on their post and give a green, if I don't agree I give them a comment and a red....

Here is the important part SIGN IT!!!
posted in another thread, But FakeBoy has a great idea as well...kudos, my man...

P.S. I would like to add that the AP system is what keeps my interest in this board, as it is...my workaround has been working quite well, I even got kind of a thrill when I negged a senior member for what I thought was wrong, that member contacted me by PM because I signed and we hashed it out personally. That member will read this and hopefully back my claim. What I am trying to say, I guess, is I like it just the way it is.

    over and out
I have a question; are you the bug, or the windshield?

The answer to this one from JP has repeatedly been "no", and besides, who wants to comb through a few thousand "Waah! I don't think he was right giving me that antipoint! WAAAH! HELP ME PLEEEEEEZE!!!111" messages each day?

And... in the real world... how is it different? If we all had the same opinions, would you be saying AO was some sort of oligarchy (or gerontocracy)?

I've said it before will again that points for most here are given because of the content not some personal grudge (ok young users may do this) but I simply don't see it from people that have been around here often. I see lately threads like this AO is a community of peers not all may agree but this is the nature of being in a peer group. I've sat through many a personal meeting presented my case to have a bunch of peers tell me I'm lame go figure point being this is the purpose of a peer group in many aspects of life. I post a thread about HP using the DMCA to perhaps file a suit claiming under the act their copyright and it was for a security hole in their OS and it get's Zero answers why cause the board is full of whimpering over points...geez focus people speak to a great bunch of peers here not unlike when you grow up and actually have a job. Sorry my rant!

    Thumbs down

Ugh....If half the people spent there time contribting to the pool of knowlege instead of whining about AntiPoints, and now they were "abused or mistreated" on the internet this place would be 110% better.
