    Error when trying to insert Winsock control!

    Hi guys

    When trying to insert a winsock control 6 into VB 6 Learning Edition i get the message 'License information for this component not found. You do not have an appropriate license to use this functionality in the design environment.'

    Please help someone!

    Looks like the Learning Edition you've got doesn't allow using that control. Did you get it with some book or something? Go buy Standard/Professional/Enterprize edition.

    I agree with ZeroOne, I had the same problem and found out that higher versions (standard/prof/...) are able to use winsock. just go and get one of these versions and try again, it should work.

    (I myself am using Enterprise Edition and it works well)

    That will most likely work, and is better to use then the control anyway. You are definately having this problem because you are using learning edition, which is free or very inexpensive. Sorry to say it, but if you are gonna get serious with VB, you will have to buy a better version. Learning edition is just what it says, its ok when you are just starting to learn.

    You could always look to an alternative, calalyst makes a handy ocx called socket wrench, you can find it here. they have a pretty full featured OCX for free!!!!

    I remember a few years ago when all I had was the learning edition of VB and this was the solution I used untill I could get my hands on a copy of VB that had winsock. Just my .02! Hope it helps

    PS they have excellent support and samples/demos, it's def. worth a look!
