Hey Scorp.... the link didn't resolve for me so couldn't see the articles you mentioned. i do know the search engines some time ago would discount any sites where words in the META tags were spammed, like repeated several times. Seems like twice-used words was mentioned as sufficient but it was so long ago that i forgot the exact numbers. I doubt that the engines will totally discard the use of META tags for indexing, however. they do place a lot of value on a site being linked to other sites, and on content matching the META tags. There is also some search engine robot considerations that can be tricky when a page has a lot of flash on it, but that's another problem. Regards.

Yes, the meta tags play a very little role in getting higher rankings in search engines. The search engines, specially Google lay more emphasis on the content and the popularity of the site. The popularity of the site is measured by the number of sites it is linked to. Google also takes into consideration the title tag. If it matches the search string, there is a pretty good chance that your page might be ranked higher. Also excessive repetition of words is looked down upon, and is sometimes ignored.

All true
What has been said is very true regarding meta tags....I believe a word being repeated more than 3 times is borderline meta spamming.
Unfortunately link popularity is weighted...as it does discriminate against sites that aren't designed to be linked too...such as product related sites.
If you are trying to improve your sites listings...and you are selling a product...go for pay per click search engines....you can get amazing results from them.
The methods used for rating sites are very poor. I've typed in keywords related to my sites...before pay per click search engines...and several sites that have nothing to do with the keywords will be listed before mine.
I've used web position gold....as this seems to be the premier web page analyzer....no real difference in ranking. This tells me once again...content isn't really that important....because the sites that are listed in the top 10 get horrible rankings with web position gold.
For the most part...I've figured that link popularity and seniority is what gets a site listed well....the only way to compete with them...is via pay per click search engines...with Overture being the best.

QUICK TIP
If you must use frames then in the NOFRAMES section of your use an include statement to include the mainframe html page like this:
This way search engine spiders will still be able to spider your home page - whatever is on it.

Speaking of metatags, I tried going on AntiOnline at work and almost got in trouble. I was thinking of posting in Site Suggestions to take off the metatags due to the fact people can get in trouble, and also because maybe AO get's some script kiddies for people who search for Hacking while on search engines and AntiOnline come's up due to the metatags. I just wish they weren't there. That's all..
