I think the European Union just banned spamming.

w00h00t !!! Aah.. that would be nice.. No spamming EVER again.
I pretty much hate spam and especially the dirty tricks they're often using. Useing other ones mailservers. Adding staff to the mail addy so you can't block it in Hotmail. Stupid subjects to make you read and so you can't see the difference between you're friends mail and others. They also don't care about who get's it, my little sister got a few months ago 100 mails per week from the one or another dirty pornsite. bah...

Spam is always going to be around while it is a good way to make some quick bucks for advertisers. The only way truly to stop spam would be for people to stop going for the gimmicks that are in the emails sent, and we all know that that's not gonna happen. People are gonna continue to fall for the scams that are prevalent in email spam, despite news reports and articles in newspapers or online. No matter how many "Union"s are made, or how many "ban" there are on spam, it's gonne be right around the corner. Like devil_dog said, the only true way to stop spam in your email is to not submit your address to crappy places that would sell your email addy.

this is true, but only if you do not have hotmail, I created a hotmail account besides my regular one just for sending files to and from school to work on, and it had junkmail in it in a matter of minutes. probably spiders.

I am running an e-mail server and I installed SpamAssassin (http://www.spamassassin.org). It is running quite reliably and detects most spam. After detection, there is a header added which makes it easy to filter it out.
If more ISP's and e-mail providers used a software like that, there would probably be less misuse of the e-mail systems.

actually hotmail is very vulnerable to spams.....
i dunno how mayb do to bugs in msn messenger or cookies used by hotmail....,.,.it is easy for crackers to get hold of vital info abt yr msn account.....
so some crackers put in code in thies sites which extract yr msn id n name n stuff and sell them to spammers........
thts the reason...i use my hotmail id only for msn messenger....not for mails......
i used to get abt 100 mails a day in it!!!

Just a quick note: One great thing about SpamAssassin that newbie mentioned is that they list on their site all the rules they use to identify spam. Even if you don't run a mail server, you can use that list as a guide to creating filters for your mail client of choice. I used a lot of the rules there in my Evolution setup, and my filters are as close to 100% effective as you will ever get. (Of course, I don't get a lot of spam to filter because I guard my e-mail address like a bank vault. ) It's a very good list.
Do what you want with the girl, but leave me alone!

Good point, problemchild, I have never thought of that possibility.
