Mirroring webpages

Hi all,

I am taking a cisco class in which we have authorized access to 2 different servers.

One of the servers is actually onsite (in the classroom) and the other is a cisco academy server.

I'm going to be going on vacation soon and I'm not going to have internet access to study. I've been trying to mirror the lessons I need so I can put them on a cd and use an old laptop I have to study while I am away.

I would print it out, but we're talking flash/video/audio and hundreds of pages.

If I access the site via web browser and I type in the ip address it comes up with an authentication box.
Here I can type in my user id and password. I get in fine, no problem.

When I try to use mirroring software such as HTTrack Website Copier or Web Snake, I get an authentication failed error. I am typing in the UID and PWD as instructed by the software docs. I have read the docs for the software and am pretty sure I am using it correctly. I am able to access/mirror other sites with or without UID and PWDs.

I've tried capturing the url but that doesn't work either.

Does anyone know of any other website mirroring software that will do this?

I tried using a packet sniffer (Ethereal) to see exactly how it is authenticating, but it doesn't capture http traffic.

Here is my idea... I start the capture software, login through the web browser. I can then look at what it captured and configure the mirroring software to do the same thing. I just need to know how to go about doing it.

I tried to get my teacher to just give me the files I need from ther server... I don't need the whole thing. She said it is against her contract to give out this. I asked her about mirroring it and she said if I could figure it out, go ahead.

If anyone else has any ideas, please feel free to suggest.

Google is always your friend... Go to Google, and search for:

Personally I use wget for website mirroring and ethereal for capturing http traffic. No problem.

wget at least if you are on linux....

Their site probably has something set up to make sure you are using a browser to look at the pages. If you rip the entire site, you could burn it on a cd and sell it for $50 a pop and make money all day long. I am not saying you are intending on doing that, but there are people that would....so they put countermeasures in place.

cisco is pretty big on not letting their class material out, but the teacher gave u a go ahead so ....

Never mind... a buddy of mine got it last semester when they had to rebuild the server. They didn't have authentication on the server at the time so he took advantage of it. The whole damn ccnp and ccna course material! I just wanted 2 chapters... oh well. I just hope they don't update their material between now and next year.... $50 a pop huh? nah, not worth the risk....

Thanks anyway! I'm still looking into sniffing http traffic. I can do it on linux but not 2k. ethereal can't find my NIC. I'll keep playing.
