SUN contributes next generation security technology to open source project
SUN MICROSYSTEMS LABORATORIES CONTRIBUTE NEXT GENERATION SECURITY TECHNOLOGIES TO OPEN SOURCE PROJECT
In short, the key handshake will be faster, the keys smaller and thus easier to use on embeded devices, cellphones, wi-fi etc..
Should we thank SUN for this generous gift ??
Theo de Raadt, a OpenBSD hacker thinks not
And I agree with him..
If OpenSSL uses the SUN code, the entire OpenSSL should no longer be called open..
ASCII stupid question, get a stupid ANSI.

Either Mr. de Raadt know something we don't know, or he's wrong. He says
OpenSSL is becoming a non-free software project, because
the code from Sun contains licenses which invoke patent litigation;
the licence on the new code basically builds a contract that says "if
you use this code, you cannot sue Sun"
The SUN press release on the other hand says that
The new cross-platform source code contributed by Sun Laboratories is available under the OpenSSL project's open source license which allows free use for commercial and non-commercial purposes
Which in my opinion cannot me misunderstood; SUNs contribution to the project is open source, just as the rest of the OpenSSL project is open source.
