Go java!
I started as a C++ programer (and still doing...!) but java past the stage of new language so if you want to get into the enterprise world i suggest java.
Any way you can start with what ever you want and continue from there!!
good luck.

Well I program as a hobby and I have alot of time on my hands to learn languages like this. I started out with basic but eventually it becomes a bore and there is alot more you can do with other languages. If you are new to programing but don't want to be tied down to basic then its just skip to C. I've gotten bored with them both.... hopefully I'll learn A.... humm and perl maybe. BTW C its also great if you are interested in UNIX based OS and is the no#1 language among busnesses. But if it becomes to much for you there are other languages that will kinda show you the ropes.
