NEW CERTIFICATION: RED HAT CERTIFIED TECHNICIAN (RHCT)
RHCT provides performance-based certification for Linux techs who
are competent in setting up new Linux systems and attaching these
to a production network.
RHCT certification is for those transitioning to Linux from
other non-UNIX operating systems, or those who want to prove
their competencies at a midway point on the way to RHCE.
The RHCT Exam is a half-day performance-based exam, and will be
included in RH133 Red Hat Linux System Administration
starting in January 2003.

ARE OPEN SOURCE OPERATING SYSTEMS INHERENTLY MORE SECURE?
Red Hat asserts that open source operating systems are inherently more
secure than proprietary alternatives. The Open Source Security Summit,
held on October 28th in Washington, DC, provided an open forum to
discuss how open source technology and processes meet the challenge
of securing networks and computer systems. It included speakers
from the White House Office of Cyberspace Security, DISA, and the
CERTA Coordination Center, among others. If you weren't able
to attend the Security Summit in person, you can still learn more
about the issues discussed at the event.

RED HAT ROAD TOUR 2002 UPDATE
Dorothy, we're not in Kansas anymore.... Oh wait, we actually ARE in Kansas.
On October 31st, Red Hat launched the Red Hat Road Tour 2002. Four men. Two
weeks. One RV. And one big country. As we pick up the story, our intrepid

WE GOT GAME(S)
One of the long standing requests for the Linux platform has been the
interoperability or porting of popular PC games to the Linux platform.
Unreal Tournament, Quake and Doom have all run natively, and Neverwinter
Nights has a Linux client in the works.
Strategy, role playing, first person shooters are the staple of a desktop
gaming platform. What about Linux? A company called TransGaming
(

version of wine and maps DirectX controls against OpenGL.
The result is that well over 150 of your favorite PC games are working on
Linux and TransGaming fully supports a significant portion of those, with
more added each month. Today's hottest titles, such as Warcraft III,
Grand Theft Auto 3, Civilization III, Diablo II, Black and White,
Jedi Knight II, Counter Strike, Rainbow 6 are either fully supported
or have anecdotal confirmation. And the list goes on. Look for the full

of games listed by degree of stability.
