    Palm Programming

    Hello All!

I've been playing with AppForge lately (a type of Visual Basic to write programs for Palm OS) and want to be able to use my infared port to send information to a printer. I have the IR receiver and everything, but would like to be able to print from my AppForge program. There are a couple of printing programs out there, but they all have a registration fee, and include a lot of features I don't need (fonts, margins, etc.) If I market my prog, I'd rather not have to charge an extra $10 licensing fee. Are there any freeware print routines out there? Done lots of searching on google and such, but can't find much. Or does anyone know how I could go about writing a simple print routine? Any information would be great.

    Thanks!

The only way I can find around it so far it to copy it and paste it to notepad/memo.

Then you can beam the notepad/memo to the IR port on the printer.

It is a pain in the arse, but it works for now. At least till something free comes out.
The formating isn't all that great either.

If you use a mail client or etc. that will sync your notes... you can copy it to a note then format it better on your pc, then print. That is even more a pain in the arse.

If I knew more about programming, I'd make an app, but unfortunately... that is not the case. I have the books to learn, just no time...

I have had some problems with beaming to the printer though. Only some of them work. So far I have had luck with any HP printer model 5 or larger. I mostly print to the 2200 series though.

If you or anyone knows a different way... please post!

I have heard that when they release the next OS, they were going to provide support for that, but that is just a rumor. Hope its true!

Thanks for the info, phishphreek80. I've used PrintBoy from Bachmann Software and PalmPrint from Stevens Creek Software. They do what I want, but again, the licensing fees. . . My program basically makes orders. There is a database for customers, and there are calcuations done and products selected. I want to print a simple order form so they can sign for it... I anticipate many people using the program on their palms and printing to different printers, so, unfortunately, a hot-sync of notes won't do. I want to avoid having to copy/paste into notes if at any way possible. Not only is it a pain (and painful formatting), my program takes a while to load - some rather large databases involved...

btw, IR printing works with my HP 940c - no problems.

If anyone else has any ideas, pointers, resources, etc., any help would be greatly appreciated!

It has been several months since I went searching but I just decied to take a quick look.

Here is a page that you may want to take a look at.

I haven't yet tried it yet... so let me know how it turns out.

    http://www.freewarepalm.com/docs/thaipalmprint.shtml

It looks like the download link is broken... so you may have to find somewhere else to download...

    EDIT:
    Ok... I found it...
The problem is... I don't speak the language... but I managed to find it...

It is listed all the way at the bottom of the page. This site is full of broken links too. Needs some serious maintence.
The download speed sucks too. The file is under a meg, so if you want me to just e-mail it to you... pm me.

    Thanks,

Another thing you could try is searching in a p2p network for "printing from palm".

The results usually have descriptions, so you could find something that way?

ive been programing on the palmOS for a while now, Learn C++ and try Codewarrior for palmOS or something. Appforge in my experience is worthless.

Thank you all for your input!

phishphreek80 - I'm downloading the ThaiPalmPrint right now. I don't speak the language either, so it may be an adventure. If it works, I'll let you know - Thanks for the link!

SarinMage - you're not the first to recommend CodeWarrior to me. It's sitting on my desk right now, but I have yet to sit down and figure it out. I've done some C++ in the past, so maybe is could write a driver myself (yuck - I'm not quite that experienced). Maybe if I can find a good book. . .

    Thanks!
