    Question about windows XP Pro

I have a laptop with XP Pro running on it. My question is how do I change the login screen back to the default win XP screen with Icons next to the Names? I dont see it in Polices or in user accounts. I believe its in the registery but where?

I also tried useing Style Xp to change the look of the screen but no luck it will not work with my version of XP.

go to START>Settings>Control Panels double click User accounts. Click Change the users logon or off. then check the Use Welcome screen, and you can optionally chose fast switching. Hope thats what you are looking for

I didnt explain myself well enough, you see I have a Laptop I got from my college with a shitload of restrictions set on it, Like they disabled the ablity to change the wall paper. Which I changed thru Regedit.exe Alot of command buttons have been disabled also As well as the one for User accounts/ change the way a person logs on or off. So what I was wondering do you know the correct registery area I must go to edit the info to allow me full access to my laptop, When I say my laptop I mean it is mine The school gave me the laptop to keep but they didnt bother giving me the full access to it. How lame are they.

Obviously the school did it for a reason and not for you to change it. The fact you went in the registry and altered a few files was dangerous, but it was also dumb because the school didn't want those files to be changed around. Next time, don't come to a Computer Security forum asking to get around your school's block. Hope I helped and that you won't make the same mistake again.

    okay, i'll help.

    1) you're probably in a domain. you can't go back to the old user logon thing until you're in a workgroup again.
    2) to get your settings back to the way you like them, so that they actually save, find ntuser.man and change it back to ntuser.dat. manditory files suck.

it's nothing really with the registry, just knowing what files you need to change.

but, chances are, because i don't doubt you are in a domain, whatever the admin sets, goes. every time you connect to the domain, your settings will change to how the admin set it, and you probably can't access the internet without being logged on to the domain.

however, if you are in a workgroup and you have access to the main administrator account (hell, maybe even a user account in the administrator's group), then i can help you.
i will shoot you so hard.
