"Open with..."
Is there any way to remove a recommended program from the "Open with..." popup menu?

It would have helped if you mentioned exactly what OS and what browser or program, but generically speaking, you can remove file associations with your explorer, go to tools->options, file types, find what type of file you are concerned with, and either chose change or delete.
Your options may vary and you may or may not have to do something along the same lines within your browser, but then again, that is why I asked about your OS/browser.

There is only one constant, one universal, it is the only real truth: causality. Action. Reaction. Cause and effect...There is no escape from it, we are forever slaves to it. Our only hope, our only peace is to understand it, to understand the 'why'. 'Why' is what separates us from them, you from me. 'Why' is the only real social power, without it you are powerless.

if you could remove it from the list the users would still have the option to choose 'other' and find the application anyway.

Hold down the shift key while right clicking on the file and the open with option will be available. This works on Win 9X and 2K

It requires a little registry tweaking, but yes.
the key is [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications]
simply click on which application you want or don't want to show up and modify it to say
Registry Settings
System Key: [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications]
Value Name: NoOpenWith
Data Type: REG_SZ (String Value)
Found here.
