Website Promotion Tips and Advice needed

Good evening everyone, quick problem needing some tips thing here. I'm starting a few website's (a chain if you will) and I really want to recieve a lot of visitors and traffic. So far, I've thought of a few ideas, but I was wondering what are some tips and tricks that can help get a lot of traffic and visitors? Thanks in advance for any help, as it is all appreciated.

First of all, I'd like to suggest submitting yourself to a LOT of search engines. The biggest ones, like ask.com, dogpile.com, yahoo.com, google.com, and other metasearches usually won't let you submit, but a LOT of the smaller ones will.

The other thing is, announce your website to anyone who will listen. Put it on message boards, e-mail out announcements, to mailing lists if you can/want. Put it into your signature.

If this is for some sort of school project, I.E. Grad. Project, you can always give yourself lots of hits...

I'm sure everyone here would be more than happy to help you out if you gave use the web address, especially if it was computer related. :-)

    Spyder32,

You can try following this steps:

    1 - Get crawled

    2 - Get ranked

    3 - Get clicked

Here you will find how to do it. Read it carefully.

    Good luck!!!

    Google Submit: http://www.google.com/addurl.html

    Doc on Yahoo Submit: http://docs.yahoo.com/info/suggest/

    Ask.com Submit http://ask.ineedhits.com/ $30.00 Submit

Also here is a easy submit form (By SubmitCorner): http://www.submitcorner.com/Tools/Submit/ That will submit your site to a bunch of search engines for free.

Make sure your Meta Tags are optimized for your site before submitting.

Also it is nice to have a robots.txt so that the Search Engine Bots do not index parts of your site that you do not want them to...

You can learn about them here http://www.robotstxt.org/wc/exclusion-admin.html

    Database of webrobots http://www.robotstxt.org/wc/active/html/
Note: Some of these do not work.

One more thing I was thinking of...
Its also good to get other sites to link to your site. Part of your ranking in google is how many other sites link to your site.
