An ip is unreachable, though I can retrieve a host name.

I have an Ip that "reports: Destination net unreachable". I'm confused though, because I can retrieve a host name from this IP. And wouldn't that make it reachable. Could this just be a firewall?

If you want the IP and host name...i can give them to you.
    Thanks Fellas

it could be a firewall with packet filtering and port forwarding - mine does the same thing.

although its probably like secretagent said the fact is you get the name from a DNS or domain name server, just because the name server is up dosn't mean the box in question is.
