    Soia,

When you launch up2date, you can choose to download only a single package update if you want. If you try this does it still hang?

Also, I believe that there is an update for up2date, maybe if you go to the errata download section of the redhat website, you can download the new version, install it, and then try running the up2date.

On slow computers the up2date tool (even the more recent version) seems to hang, but it doesn't, it's only very very slow (and a resource hug). I experienced that if you give it time and don't do something else it will continue working. True multitasking

that's not normal. Even on a PII of mine it runs completly updates install everything in a couple of minutes. There's definitly something wrong. Perhaps a fault in the install? or in the connection with redhat?

There's a known problem with up2date when you installed Python packages. (Bug 80633 - Python/GTK/bonobo install paths altered from 8.0). There's also a known bug in rhnlib related to that issue.

I guess you can get a lot of the updates by updating your rpm's manually.
http://www.rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/ this can help you with that.

and like pointed out above: https://rhn.redhat.com/errata/rh8-errata.html

More info about the RedHat up2date tool: http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/R...e/up2date.html
You can try the commandline version of up2date, perhaps that one works?

another option would be to run redcarpet. www.ximian.com which can also be run as a daemon.
