uninstall tcp/ip and dialup networking re-boot then re-install them and re-boot again

This is a known bug in W98.

    Here is what you do:
    1) Search the entire machine for *.pwd
    2) Delete them
    3) Shut down the machine
    4) Power back on and then you can re-create his pwd file by setting a new username and password.
    5) DUN will now allow you to click the save password checkbox.

    Hope this helps.

It deletes the password cache. The passwords in 9x are just a joke anyway... they are so easy to get around...

BTW: this only works on a 95 or 98 box... maybe ME, I've never played much with ME.

    Tedob1,

Yeah, this is a bug that I reported to MS a LONG time ago. Problem is that someone beat me to the punch as MS just gave me a knowledge base Q number and sure enough, it was exactly what I was seeing. Your method works fine too (as you know :-) ) but the pwd sweep is just another way to acheive the same thing.
