A virus is basically an executable file that is designed so that it is able to infrct documents, has the abillity to survive by replacing itself, and is also able to aviod detection. Usually to aviot detection, a virus disguises itself as a legitimate program that a user would not normally susspect to be a virus. Viruses are designed to corrupt or delete data on the hard disk, this is on the FAT (File Allocation Table). Viruses can be classisfied into the following catigories.

    1. boot sector viruses MRB (master boot record
    2.File or program viruses
    3.Multipartite Viruses
    4.stealth Viruses
    4.Polymorphic viruses
    5. macro viruses

    Hope that anserd your question.

    WOW alot of questions here....

The diff. between virii and worms is a virus would use something like a memory flooder and fill the HD with garbage and attach itself to other files. I guess virii is mainly about messing up a PC. A worm usually speard by exploits through like SMTP, kazza, (ect) a worm would mainly be used to try and spread something very fast and at a massive amount.

What are some virii purposes? Well... theres dDoS, remote exploits, pranks, damage, revenge, braging rights..... it really deppends on who wrote it, how, and why.

Do they write commands to delete crucial parts of a OS? Yeah... infact its not hard at all to write something that could make a text file, paste text that has commands to delete files inside of the text file, save it as .BAT, & then it runs the file.
