NMap. Snort. LaBrea. etc. etc.
Mankind have a great aversion to intellectual labor; but even supposing knowledge to be easily attainable, more people would be content to be ignorant than would take even a little trouble to acquire it.

Because all of the machines at work are Windows machines (XP/NT/2000), I use PuTTY to SSH into my Linux box at home.
I also use Webmin sometimes, however I never leave the Webmin port open (10000). WHen I want to use it, I SSH into my box and a new rule to IPTABLES, and then when I am done, I remove the rule.

I can´t write about tools I use at work just because I don´t have this kind of job (no job at all, probably changin in a couple of months). So, I will just mention 3 tools I am very fond of:
1) netcat connects everything to everything
2) lsof= shows all files that are open at the moment.all that your users are trying to hide from you..
3) task, a forensic tool. Ok, I admit: I began reading the documentation, and haven´t needed it yet (I think i will never do). Anyway, seems fun =).
1 and 3 can be find here: www.atstake.com , under research/tools . lsof is very likely to be found in a linux distribution. Don´t ask me the package, I never bothered to know.. :/
Found in a diary:
\".... and yes, since i am a l337 hax0r, i am also using vi to write this. ^[[D^[[B^ exit ^X^C quit :x :wq dang it :w:w:w :x ^C^C^Z^D\"

Web Programmer so I use stuff like Flash MX, Adobe Photoshop, Homesite, Asp.net Matrix.
Putty for the obvious, Any FTP program I can get my hands on rapidly,
For web diagnosis I use alot of vulnerability checks with N-Secure.
Got plenty of browsers to check compatibility.
(mozilla 1.3, ie 3-6, netscape 4.83 - 7, opera 5 and 7)
Secondary linux box for checking linux code, run my own servers ( apache, php, mysql, sqlserver, iis, asp) all that stuff.
Most of this is pretty mainstream so I didn't link to any of it.

Yes of course putty is also my favourite. But other than that I use Languard Network Scanner from http://www.languard.com/ and Ethereal from http://www.ethereal.com/ for real hardcore problem solving and last but not least I just love autoexpect in *nix one can do wonders with it.
