win2k securtiy
client has lost administrative password in windors 2000. After removal from domain, can no longer access machine. Any advice????

if they got the time, you could probably boot a live cd version of linux that has crack of john the ripper installed and try and brute force the password.. i'm not sure what the effects of wiping the SAM file are but i'm sure someone here could help with that...

In most cases the "Offline NT password recovery tool" (google for it) will suffice.
It's not guaranteed but it's easy and quicker than reinstalling.
There is no need to try to crack the old password, can simply change it to a new one.

This sort of problem has been posted before on this forum. Why not start with an advance search on antionline.com then on google.com

why don't you use Winternals ERD Commander 2002 & Administrator’s Pak ?
it Includes the Locksmith utility to reset lost Administrator passwords
