    Question Port scanning trouble?

Well i have a problem i was looking at a post here it said open up your fav port scanner and serch for netBIOS but i have no idea where to do that. I tried the help file but had no luck. Could someone tell me how i can look for ports with names like netBIOS or do i have to do something else. And my port scanner is called Advance port scanner should i get a different one to do this. Or maybe i have to check a box, not sure.

    >Thanks

To check for NetBIOS, see if ports 135, 139 and 1035 are open.

NMAP is a powerfull portscanner for linux or even for Win users... yes, there is also a version of nmap for win users, although i prefer the linux version. You can really tune your scanning...

Well, IMHO, the *nix version is stable and the win version isn't.

Other than that I don't believe there are any other difference except those imposed by the OS itself.

Not much, I think, except that the Windows nmap is a little slower and if you get it along with nmapwin, you get a nice frontend. If you get nmapwin, make sure that you disable the nmap service on startup as it's not something you want running unless you know what you're doing.

i don't like the win GUI personally...
thanx for the reply... the only diff i know
is that nmap(win) can not scan localhost or 127.0.0.1
but i believe this to be a winpcap problem and not nmap's fault
yeah, I\'m gonna need that by friday...

Eh? The Win Gui is the same as the *nix Gui.
