    Media services

I am setting up a streaming media server and have two questions that I hope someone knows an answer to.

    1. What is the draw back to useing http in the media services server to stream video

    2. Using HTTP-Basic authentication is there a way to pass in the username and password through a link? mms://username:password@MYmediaserver.com dosn't seem to work

should I be assuming your using Windows based streaming?

If so, using http is simply one other method of getting the location of your media server to the client. The HTTP method is really only useful if your web page has a domain name, but your media server doesn't, so it is easier to type http://www.yourdomain.com/yadayada.ext, than mms://123.123.123.123/channel.

Secondly, if your giving someone a link with the username and pass already in it, why is the resource password protected in the first place?

we would like to pass the username and password in the link ahla http://userass@domain.com, media server dosn't seem to support this. The reason in passing the username and password is that we would like a littel security (and the pass/username will be rotated) but have rather clueless users connecting, and they may have a probelm typeing in a username and password
