OK, sorry, to clarify my position:
Obviously there is a place for a 'hacker' who is payed to find vulnerabilities in software/hardware so as to tighten security for future software/hardware releases.
Political, truth seeking, hackers I can see what they are trying to achieve but I personally disagree with their methods.
Thrill seeking defacers and internet bullyboys is where I draw the line of my tolerance. They waste a lot of innocent people's time and money, causing a lot of grief for them and in my opinion deserve to be punished at the fullextent of whatever laws may be in force. My father-in-law worked at a school a while back, a pupil there was blackmailing other pupils by taking control of their home machines everytime they were on-line and threatening all sorts of stuff. This is not acceptable behaviour IMO.

yes, is true. Some people abuse theyr power to do things but every peron is different why if some 'hackers' do illegal or negative stuff we cannot say that they are all alike.

i think the people that think hackers are people who break into system and destroy files ... like the media has spread the work that hackers are bad guys.... but in reality that are cracker or virus writers ..... i consider myself a kinda new hacker ... because i see how much people only on this site know and i don't... so hacking is for me exploring my ssytem and finding exploits and create a more advanced and secure OS for myself and share my knoledge with others .... thats just my opinio .... i could be wrong

Ive got to say that hacking to me is not about destroying things. I grew up to become an avid outdoorsman. One of my biggest philosophies in life. Leave things as you find them. I apply that same philosophy to computers. I dont try to break into any system but my own or systems i have EXPRESS written consent to atemp a break in. and on anybody elses system i dont touch anything. Now im not much of a hacker. I realy dont know that much. If you ask me are the guys that break into systems and trash stuff or steal credit card info ore anything like that, are they hackers? Unequivicably: HELL NO!!!. They are punks that have never been taught to respect others rights. Just because they know more than me doesnt make them better than me

Who cares about what title or name you put on yourself to try to prove your "status" to other people?
I dont know what people classify me as..
and I dont really care..
I like computers, and I like learning about them. period.
The "name" shouldn't and doesn't matter.
