Getting the Most out of your Bandwidth

I live in a test market for a company called surewest (surewest.com). They have this all in one package where i get a fiber drop to my house that includes internet (10mbps), phone line with 100 min long distance (everything outside my area code = long distance), unlimited local calling (everything in my area code = local calling) and cable tv (the standard 200 plus channels) all for the low low price of 99 bucks a month. I can get a static ip from surewest as well for an extra 3 bucks a month. the best part is it didnt cost anythign to install and they put well over 1200 dollars worth of equipment in my house. Surewest is using a proprietary fiber to ethernet converter made by lucent. I looked at the box and it has a wan and a lan port, and then 3 extra ports for phone lines. unfortunately there is no other port on the box that i can CLI into. I really want to do nat, but i think im gonna need to get another router for that, or get a hardware firewall i can plug into behind the gateway...

All i can say is holy @#$#@ when i get on kaaza...

Just introduced into a suburb of Perth, Western Australia on a trial basis....

"The network is managed by Western Power's telco offshoot, Bright Telecommunications, and takes optical fibre all the way to users' homes.

It delivers a dedicated 100 Mbit/s Ethernet link to every subscriber; about 195 times faster than a typical 512Kbit/s ADSL connection."

Pricing is a bit rich at the moment though .... but definitely the way of the future.

I am just stoked I finally have my wireless 512/128 DSL connection up and running.

www.thebandwidthpalce.com is down last time i checked, they appear to be selling thier bandwidth speed testing code to any one who wants it, wierd...they have been running for quite a while now, wonder why that happened

I get 10.0 Mbps with my dsl. I installed it about a month ago

Funny how bandwidth place wants to charge for the source code for their speed test. Speed testing is just simple math and/or time comparsion.

I want to live in a big city that has test markets.

I feel behind the technology curve. Here I just got this DSL connection and thought I had the fastest connection around. Now you guys come telling me about how your getting 10 Mbps and 100 mbps connections.

But don't worry, one day I'll have my own big comapny and I'll have a gigabit line run to my house.

*note to self* must find rich uncle first.
