    Linux Modem

Yes , I was just wondering , my Compaq has a lucent win modem in it now , so it will not work for linux. But my friend gave me an old old external 14.4 bps modem. It didn't read it in the bootup logs , so i don't know whats the matter with it.Should my best bet be to buy a brand new ext modem ?

That would be my suggestion, just make sure it has a hardware controller on it. . .some of the new usb externals still use software controllers and won't work out of the box w/ *nix.
Every now and then, one of you won't annoy me.
